About Business Writing

Business Writing can be used flexibly as a stand-alone course or as homework to support learners who need to improve their writing for work.

Learners who study 2–3 hours per week over several months typically see significant improvements in their writing and feel more confident communicating with colleagues across a range of business situations.

Business Writing provides:

  • 105 lessons across 7 levels from B1 to C1.
  • Topics and tasks that reflect a wide variety of everyday business situations.
  • 180 short, focused pronunciation activities aligned to lesson topics, allowing learners to record themselves to refine stress and intonation of key sentences and vocabulary.
  • 2,800 high-frequency business words embedded in realistic tasks so learners grasp meaning and usage.
  • Detailed, individualised feedback on task completion, organisation, language range and accuracy, writing style, and sentence structure.
  • Well-scaffolded practice that helps learners plan, outline, and complete texts, with model answers and practical tips.
  • Printable end-of-lesson reviews featuring sample sentences, writing tips, and useful phrases.
  • Integrated progress tracking and a final test to evaluate level.
  • Upon completion, learners can reach business-writing proficiency comparable to CEFR C1.

Guided, task-led lessons

At the start of the course, learners complete a short writing diagnostic and are then offered lessons appropriate to their level.

Each lesson begins with a realistic scenario that sets the context and learning aims. A sequence of activities then guides learners to plan, outline, and refine their text before producing a full piece of writing. Clear tips and model texts are provided before the final task.

The course structure allows learners to submit their writing to online tutors. Feedback covers task achievement, organisation, accuracy, range, and style. Learners may also share their work to a library to learn from peers.

Learning cycle

Lessons follow a systematic cycle: clarify context and objectives, practise and prepare, then complete a real-world writing task.

Content is broken into short modules so learners can start a lesson, take a break, and easily resume at any time.

  • An initial diagnostic checks level to ensure an appropriate starting point.
  • Each lesson is grounded in authentic, day-to-day business scenarios.
  • The scenario sets clear objectives so learners know what their text needs to achieve.
  • A clear training path supports planning, outlining, and polishing the final text.
  • Writing can be submitted to tutors for targeted feedback on task achievement, organisation, accuracy, range, and style.

Business Writing lesson content can be adapted into short courses tailored to your syllabus and programme requirements.
